Freedom Salute Ceremony Hartford Armory, Hartford, CT To Honor the 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry, CT National Guard, August 5, 2007
The American flags were out in full force outside and inside the Hartford Armory on a bright and sunny day as the State of Connecticut and the American people paid tribute to the 500 soldiers of the 1st Bn, 102d INF. They had returned from Afghanistan in April from Operation Enduring Freedom and were now being honored with four medals (National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device). CT Governor M. Jodi Rell and CT Adjutant General MG Thaddeus Martin were on hand to see that all the troops received their medals. In addition, several soldiers received individual medals including the Bronze Star.
