We had another great Super Bowl Party for our Wounded and Injured Veterans and Servicemen/women at the Bethesda/Chevy Chase Rescue Center in Bethesda, MD. A short distance from Walter Reed, we had a great turnout, busing our injured and wounded to the party. The party is coordinated every year by Captain John "Woody" Woodall of Fire Fighters Assisting Armed Forces Families (FFAAFF). Woody gets his fellow charities and firefighter friends to pull this off. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon is proud to have been a lead sponsor of this event for years. Partners this year included the LT Dennis W Zilinski II Memorial Foundation, OritaniBank Charitable Foundation, Unilever Military Sales, the FDNY (Fire Department of NYC), Fair Lawn (NJ) ADA Committee, Gary Sinise Foundation, Camp4Heroes and others. Special thanks to the Bethesda/Chevy Chase Rescue Center for putting on such a hospitable venue. Everyone had a great time. AaSP Supporter Karl Nelson, 1986 NY Giants Super Bowl Champion, joined us with his wife Inga, signed memorabilia and took pictures with fans. It was a great time.
In 2015, the venue for the Super Bowl Party was switched to the Bethesda/Chevy Chase Rescue Squad building. It was a great event and more relaxed. The Rescue guys cooked all kinds of great food and it was a sensational party and lots of our Wounded Vets attended. We also brought gifts for the kids furnished by Unilever's Tax Department and the Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff, NJ. Also brought gift cards from OritaniBank Charitable Fund, the Church, the LT Dennis W Zilinski II Memorial Foundation and the North Jersey Blue Star Moms #3. Unilever's Military Sales Team contributed significantly to expenses. It was a great event!!!
Once again, we are proud to have co-sponsored the Super Bowl party at Walter Reed NMMC, supporting lead organizations Fire Fighters Assisting Armed Forces Families, FDNY, The Independence Fund and Truckin' 4 Troops.
Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon teamed up with Unilever and the LT Dennis W Zilinski II Foundation to donate about $10,000 worth of prizes, gifts and giveaways. We provided souvenir official NFL Jerseys for both teams, $50 Visa gift cards, Xbox games, Mike & Ikes candy from Just Born, Coffee from Coffee Associates and other gifts including TRX Force Kits from our friends at TRX Fitness. The Zilinski Foundation funded all Wounded Heroes and their family to a pre-Super Bowl dinner at the Event hotel. All in all, it was outstanding!
At the party, our good friend SGM Willene Orr came by, loaded with gifts from the 101st Airborne (she brought a 101st ABN football jersey that one of our Wounded Heroes had just asked for!) and US Army, including t-shirts. And one of our former Adoptees, Jason Hale, was on hand and we met for the first time! It was awesome meeting him since we supported Charlie Troop pretty hard while they were deployed. Meeting Jason was icing on the cake.
And Gary Sinise came by and took pictures with the Wounded Heroes and charities for hours. Gary is an incredible man who is truly our generation's Bob Hope. He spends so much of his time, energy and his own money to support our Troops overseas and at home! In fact, the next day, Gary, along with Woody and bunch of our Wounded Heroes went to California for a Hollywood/Disneyland tour! Gary thanks a million brother! YOU are one in a Million!!!!
We love spending time with our Wounded Heroes and also with the Fire Fighters from NYC and with our great friend Capt Woody. We had just gotten back from Afghanistan on a Thursday and drove down to Walter Reed that Saturday. We also invited the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders who came in force! Five Cheerleaders from our trip to AFG and five Redskins Ambassadors attended the party, signed autographs, took pictures and talked and interacted with our Heroes. It was a fabulous day! Thanks to our Benefactors for helping make it possible!
Thanks to a grant from Unilever Military Sales, we were able to purchase official NFL jerseys and Super Bowl hats for the party! EA's Medal of Honor Warfighter brand also donated games shown in this picture. Hooah, HooYah and OohRah!
UPDATE 3 FEB 2013: The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders and representatives from the Redskins organization arrived with boxes and boxes of calendars, footballs, t-shirts, jackets, golf shirts, team roster pics, game day programs, magnets, wrist bands and a host of goodies! THANK YOU to the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders for making the event so very special!!! UPDATE 1 FEB 2013: TRX Fitness donated some TRX Force kits, Microsoft Xbox 360 donated some Kinect sensors and the Tennessee Titans sent two boxes of stickers, buttons, player cards and beverage holders. UPDATE 30 JAN 2013: The Miami Dolphins sent a carton of GREAT STUFF! Included are all kinds of stickers and bumper stickers, team and cheerleader cards, hats, scorebooks (including one with the perfect Dolphins on the cover!) and, get this, three GAME DAY USED FOOTBALLS! We will be sending one to AFG and giving away two at Walter Reed! Thank you Miami Dolphins! (thanks Kim, Michelle and Barbara!)
We joined the Fire Fighters Assisting Armed Forces Families (FFAAFF) and FDNY to have a super Super Bowl Party again at Walter Reed NMMC this year!
We partnered again with FFAAFF to make the Super Bowl Party at Walter Reed a big success for all our Wounded Heroes! This year, our Benefactors at Unilever Military Sales made our contributions go much farther with a huge grant! Thanks to Kurt and the Military Sales Team there. We brought Kindle Fires, TRX kits and our Veterans Liaison and Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Program specialists to Bethesda to be on hand to help our Heroes. In addition, thanks to Unilever, we brought the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders again (with a bunch of their famous calendars)! It was awesome!
Just look at that smile above! Bix is sporting Super Bowl rings from Joe Andruzzi. It doesn't take much to put a smile on our Heroes' faces. Super Bowl rings, footballs, TRXs, video games and assorted other goodies go a long way to bringing joy to our Wounded Heroes. We are blessed we can help do that!!
