Dr. Philip Perdue, Regional Trauma Chief at Walter Reed NMMC, was our Keynote this year. Dr. Perdue recently returned from AFG, where he was Director of Trauma at the Role III NATO hospital in Kandahar and AaSP Adoptee too!
The day after Salute last year, a bus load of Military, including injured Vets and their caregivers, visited the Freedom Tower's Observation Deck, lunch at a NJ diner and dinner at a local Italian restaurant in NJ.

Last year we raised about $100,000 for our Injured Veterans and our Wounded Care programs. 100% of the net proceeds go directly to our Operation Wounded Care programs! The money is being spent on improving the lives and independence of our Wounded Vets and to help sponsor Camp4Heroes, a sanctuary and retreat for injuired servicemen and women in Fairmont, NC.

Our Keynote Speaker: COL Fredrick C. Dummar former Commander, Camp Morehead, AFG AaSP visited Camp Morehead in January 2014; sometime later, COL Dummar took command of this training base. Jeff Barillaro, a Wounded Hero from Operation Iraqi Freedom, was raised in Vallejo, CA, and grew up with music in his blood. After getting wounded in Iraq, he decided that music could be an important part of his therapy to deal with severe PTS. He started writing music for other Warfighters who have come back with traumatic injuries and also began recruiting Wounded Heroes to perform with his non-profit REDCON-1 label. Now he is leading a group known as the Number One Warfighter Hip Hop Rap Artists in America. We are privileged to have Jeff perform at Salute!!!! Last year, he also administered the Spartan Pledge to one of our Wounded Heroes and is ready to do it again this year.

Our Emcee: Marvin Scott Marvin was our Emcee last year. Winning three more Emmy awards this year, Marvin now has 10 Emmy awards for journalistic achievement. Since joining WPIX in 1980, he has served in multiple capacities as anchor, reporter, host and producer. Scott is currently the station’s Senior Correspondent and anchor/host of the weekly issues-oriented program, PIX News Close Up. He is also the Emcee of the prestigious annual Ellis Island Medal of Honor ceremonies. This past Christmas, Marvin and producer Dave Kimmel went to Bagram AB, AFG, to entertain the Troops. Special Guest: Scott LoBaido Scott LoBaido is fast becoming America's best-known Patriotic Cause artist. He paints his favorite image, the American flag, on building walls, rooftops, anywhere he can to pay homage to the American people in times of trouble and need. His recent works in Staten Island to help Hurricane Sandy victims and in Boston to celebrate Boston Strong are two recent examples.

Special Guest: Daniel Rodriguez To those who have come to know him as the “singing policeman,” — the New York City cop who helped bring the country an uplifting spirit of promise and hope after the September 11th terrorist attacks with his stirring rendition of “God Bless America” — it is no surprise that Daniel Rodriguez is known as America’s Beloved Tenor. Daniel will be attending AND performing at Salute '2'! Retired USMC Sgt John M Peck and his fiancee' Stacy Elwood
We are providing a significant financial stipend to retired USMC Sgt John M Peck, who is getting a double arm transplant in Boston, MA.! The stipend will help defer all his living expenses getting up to Boston and remaining there for his recuperation.
Marine Sgt. Eddie Ryan and his Mom Angie and Dad Chris have been through so much since Eddie, a Marine sniper, was wounded in Iraq in 2005. AaSP learned of his wounds recently. He was shot by American forces. A lack of communication existed and an American tank turned its deck gun on a rooftop where Eddie and six Marines had taken its post. AaSP furnished a hardship financial grant to Eddie and the family from Salute monies.
Monster Truck Jam in Las Vegas March 19-23, 2014
AaSP donated $2,500 to help take five Wounded Heroes and their families to the Monster Truck Jam in Las Vegas, NV. Our Heroes like trucks and this was a way for them and their families to get away from the everyday doldums of rehab and have some fun. We were glad to partner with Truckin' 4 Troops and FFAAFF to make this happen!
LCpl Casey Allison was severely wounded the same day AaSP was in Southern Afghanistan on its Military Appreciation Tour with the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders. We saw Casey in the ICU at the Role III Hospital there and now have "re-met" him and his wonderful Mom Kelly, wife Mia and little 3-mos-old daughter Ava. We're already helping him by donating to his rehab/life fund and will do what we can to make his transition to civilian life easier and better!
$10,000 was donated to help Taylor Morris and his wife Danielle get a new Jeep Cherokee.
What we're doing with the money:
Providing stipends ($2,500 ea) to Sgt Aaron Alonso (USMC1/9) and Sgt Eddie Ryan (USMC 3/2)
Buying iPad Minis and giving them to Wounded Heroes so they can stay in contact with Battle Buddies and family
Donated $2,500 to Truckin 4 Troops and FFAAFF to be able to take five Wounded Heroes and their families to the Monster Truck Jam in Las Vegas the weekend of 15-16 March, 2014.
Donated $1,000 to LCpl Casey Allison's rehab and life fund (Casey was injured on 28 September, the same day AaSP was at Role III Hospital at Camp Leatherneck to visit. We met Casey that night in the ICU and we have met him and his family at Walter Reed. Also purchasing an iPad for Casey so his communications will be easier and more fun, now that he has transferred to Balboa.
Purchased 40 iPods for Walter Reed's Natl Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) for memory and other rehab for Wounded Heroes with TBI and PTS, thanks to a very generous grant from OritaniBank Charitable Foundation of Washington Township, NJ.

Salute to American Heroes exceeded our highest expectations! It was a wonderful assemblage of caring, generous and patriotic Americans and our Military Heroes --- including Wounded Heroes, all coming to celebrate Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon's 10 years of supporting our Troops and raising money for our Wounded.
We had Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan combat. Many of AaSP's Adoptees attended, thanks to the generosity of many of our supporters who bought tickets so that our Military could enjoy themselves without paying for their tickets. We had Brig Gen Michael Cunniff, The Adjutant General of New Jersey and many other dignitaries. SSG Ty Michael Carter, recent recipient of The Medal of Honor, sent a video shout out as well! It was an incredible evening!
We raised nearly $100,000 for our Wounded Heroes! Every cent will be carefully spent to enable our Wounded Heroes to be more independent, have better self-esteem and enjoy life more to the fullest.

May 14-15, 2013 --- Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, working with the Fort Drum Chapter of Project Healing Waters, the DeBruce Fly Fishing Club and the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, brought five Veterans down to Livingston Manor, NY, for two days of some of the best fly fishing in New York State. It was a wonderful and fun "healing" mission and another aspect of AaSP's Operation Combat Care to heal the souls of our Wounded.
On Wednesday, March 13, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon presented the Natl Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) with 21 iPods for its Wounded Heroes! Receiving the donations for NICoE was Ms. Celene Moorer. We added two more iPods on April 23rd and will be acquiring more as well.
AaSP supports the Wounded Marine Barracks at Camp Leatherneck in AFG. Shown here is a live Xmas tree sent by DHL to AaSP units in AFG as part of its Trees for the Troops. AaSP is fortunate to have such great partners, all supporting our Brave Men and Women overseas.
The 933rd Forward Surgical Team in AFG is one of the many Medical units AaSP supports that take care of our Troops and Wounded down range in AFG.
